If you could kill a demon, would you kill the one inside?

We humans are not perfect. Our potential to achieve is endless, but we are limited by our own choices. Choices, that are predominantly driven by our self-interests. In the process of making those choices, we let our insecurities, fears and apprehensions get the better of us. We fail to focus on our own wellness. Our choices do not necessarily generate the desired outcome.

Journey to Wellness Starts Within

For many years, I have been trying to figure out why we end up making such choices? Why do we become slaves to our insecurities? Why can’t we break away from our fears? I realised that there can’t be a unified answer to these questions. Each individual human being is different. Our lives and associated experiences are different, too. They may be similar, but, are never the same. I was confused and disappointed. After months of introspection, I had an idea. It just occurred to me, that there can’t be a single answer to these questions. But, there has got to be a common thread. And that common denominator is emotions. Emotions are what really make us humans. They are one of the major factors that differentiate us from other mammals.

But, emotions have a major drawback. If one is going through an emotional surge, they can almost completely block one’s rationality and practicality. For instance, a caring and compassionate person can say or do things that can hurt the ones s/he loves. In those moments of indiscretion, emotions can bring out a demon. In case of some emotional people, this demon can thrive making life difficult for them and the ones that matter the most to them.

So how does one deal with this demon? How can one overpower or kill this demon? Again, answer would vary for each individual. Still, I would highly recommend you to explore which of the following solutions and associated products would work for you:

If it all came back to you, would you embrace it?

Our lives are getting complex by the day. Materialism, is one of the reasons. It has seeped into the day-to-day life like never before. I do not intend to communicate that materialism is bad. It really is not. It is an integral part of our existence. Consuming worldly pleasures is part of our lives, and we must. The Universe or Supreme Being – whichever name you address Him or Her with – has given us a world that is full of materials that can either be consumed in their natural form (like fruits) or be further changed in shape, form, and at times, the very inherent nature to make items or products of desire. Take mobile phones, for instance. Mobile phone technology has enabled humans to stay in touch better and faster.  I am taking the liberty to list a select few of them below.

Create Memories As You Go

Human creativity has already, and become even more, unbounded. But, in all of this, we tend to disconnect with ourselves, and we do not even realize that it is happening. This is not desirable for many reasons. One of them being us ignoring (if not forgetting) our life experiences. Those small and big successes and failures that make us who we are today, especially the small ones. Mobile phones offer a very well-though ecosystem that allows us to document and share our experiences. Yet, we forget those priceless memories and loose ends that could be tied (or could not be). But, our mind has its own way of bringing those memories back. And when those memories comes back to us, they appear strange, unknown. Almost like re-discovering that photograph in the attic that you don’t remember existed. This, to some degree, causes us to resist accepting those memories to begin with. At times, we find it nearly impossible to accept them at all. But, we must. Because that discomfort is short-term, and in the long-term, acceptance of those memories will only bring peace. So, go ahead, embrace those memories for they are a part of you. And, you will find that you can enjoy all the material pleasures even more.

If you could think freely, would you still judge?

We are living in a highly polarized world. A world that is divided by almost everything. Even by the most commoditized products like a TV model! One has to really make an effort to identify the commonalities – what are the similarities that we have with the people around us? What makes us alike? Such thoughts tend to overbear the mind.

But why is it so? Since ages we have been trying to understand the purpose of our existence, at a spiritual level. And at a materialistic level, we seek to understand our place in this world. In so many ways, the materialistic aspect tends to overbear the spiritual one. Because, being the social animal that we are, ‘fitting in’ is deeply ingrained in us.

Man has managed to discover, invent and create uncountable items of desire. For instance, television. Since its invention by P. Farnsworth, and popularised by David Sarnoff, television is one of the major inventions of the 20th century.

Latest Technologies in a TV Model

Despite being omnipresent to a large degree, new technologies like OLED or AMOLED continue to make  a TV model an object of desire and a symbol of status. Look at which popular TV model that is available in the market today:

Now, imagine that you have one of the bestselling TV models list above. Would you still feel the need to seek similarity with people around you? May be. But, in time, when you have acquired such objects of interest, you can hope to rise above the materiality, and move towards the spiritual aspect. That’s when you can be free. Go, satisfy your materialistic desires, and rise.

If you looked in the mirror, would you feel free?

Freedom, for some reason, is what us humans have strived for, through the millennia. It is as if we were created by a Super Power in a petri dish. (May be we were!) It is difficult to say that we will know the truth, if there is any other version of it. Travel and books are a legitimate way to discover partial truth, if not the whole.

What is clear is that we never feel free, in the true sense of it. We are always seeking freedom. Freedom from work, relationships, or ailments, the list is endless. We all have our own version of it, and have disparate criteria to define what it means to each one of us.

I am taking the liberty of listing out two of the most common criteria that define freedom for people, and some of the things that you can possibly do to inch closer to meeting the criteria. Making money, Travel & books can help you achieve personal freedom.

Travel & Books

This is a slightly tricky one. We all love to travel, but money becomes the biggest constraint. You can always travel to a nearby destination and stay at budget hotels. For some, it could be something different. I would recommend that you try one of the books mentioned below to decide whether budget travel or travel (in the first place) would give you a sense of freedom:

If you had just one leap to take, would you take it for faith?

Life is not a smooth ride. This rule applies to all, irrespective of their status, caste, creed, gender or location. Look at the daily challenges of life, or those events that have a significant impact on our lives, we need faith to deal with those challenges. Have faith in life and in the fact that our existence is not meaningless. Each one of us is here as part of a grand design. We are here to serve a higher purpose. We may or may not have cognizance of this purpose, but it underscores our presence in this world.  All the religious and self-help books talk about this.

Faith is what we need

Our insecurities, fears and apprehensions leave us in doubt. We begin to doubt the purpose of our very existence. Faith is what keeps us going when everything else seems to be working against us. We must work towards not just building faith, but strengthening it. This is a workout for the soul. More we engage in practices and develop positive habits, stronger our faith gets.

I can’t think of a better way of reinforcing faith than to read books. To me, following books can act like persistent guides that can help strengthen faith, and kill our doubts and fears.

If you could catch dreams, would you chase one?

One of the biggest gifts us humans been bestowed with is our ability to dream. You can read about this in loads of self help books. We all have dreams. Dreams root into our deepest desires and emotions that we nurture over a period of time. In more than one ways, our dreams have a significant influence on our personality and character. In other words, our dreams make who we are, and the person we are likely to become.

Between the dreams and reality, lies our life. What we live is, to a good extent, an effort to achieve our dreams. Turning them into a reality. During this process of living, many extrinsic and intrinsic factors come into play. The extrinsic factors are, to good degree, uncontrollable. They require creative solutions like troubleshooting to arrive at a solution or a work around. Which brings us to intrinsic factors, which are not only controllable, but replicable too. This is where our creativity comes from. And we need creativity to come up with “out-of-the-box” solutions to deal with complex situations.

How do we get come up with creative solutions to achieve our dreams? There is no one size fits all answer. You need to find what would work for you. To begin with, I would suggest referring to the following self help books:

If you could change your face, would you?

Who are we? What makes us who we are? Such questions have such a deep meaning, finding an answer to them would take a lot more than introspection. Given the banality and routine of our lives, we neither have the time, nor the energy to explore the deepest parts of ourselves. While we would love to embark upon this thrilling journey into discovering our own selves, we choose to take the short cut – we end up focusing on our external appearance. How do we look? We focus on buying a host of cosmetics by major brands like:

We do not stop at that. We want accessories like Armani Eyeglasses (GIORGIO ARMANI EYEGLASSES GA 513 0NKE HAVANA SAND) or a Zara jeans (Zara Man Men’s Distressed Straight Slim Fit Denim Jeans Blue Imported from USA) or a Gap sweatshirt (GAP Men’s Cotton Sweatshirt (12292879609_Pinot Noir 796_Large); watch by Giordano (Giordano Analog Rose Gold Dial Women’s Watch-2861-22) or Fossil (Fossil Q FTW2108 Marshal Digital Multi-Colour Dial Men’s Watch) or Armani (Emporio Armani Chronograph Off-White Dial Men’s Watch-AR2074I); fragrance by Hugo Boss (Hugo Boss Femme Eau De Parfum Spray for Women, 75ml) or Yves Saint Laurent (Yves Saint Laurent La Nuit De L’Homme Eau De Toilette Spray – 3.3-Ounce); and so on.

Does this bring us a sense of fulfilment that we seek through working on our outward appearance? Yes. It does. Because we are God’s own creation, and it is important to take care of ourselves. It is the least we can do. We – you – are beautiful the way we have been created. Now I ask again, if you could change your face, would you still want to?
